At What Age Does Walking Up and Down Stairs Become Too Strenuous Due to Ageing?

As we age, the energy consumed, the cardiopulmonary function declines, and the sense of balance weakens, making stairs more and more strenuous. However, stairs are not only a tool for daily transportation, but also an important way to maintain body functions.
When an elder was young, he was in good health and used to go up and down the stairs every day to stay active. However, after moving to a new home, he climbed the stairs because of the elevator stairs. After only half a year, he found it difficult to get up and asked for help. Not long after, he died due to deteriorating health. This highlights the key role of stair activities in maintaining and intercepting heart health.
Long-term avoidance of stair climbing may accelerate the decline of physical function, while insisting on stair climbing activities can help delay the elderly and maintain independent living ability.
