How My 15-lb Puppy Mastered the Dog Doorbell
Training my 15-lb puppy to use a dog doorbell was a game-changer. She quickly learned to tap it gently with her nose or paw, and now the chime signals when she needs to go outside.
Why a Doorbell?
Decoding subtle cues like whining or pacing was frustrating. A doorbell promised clear communication, and after choosing a simple one with a soft chime, I was ready to train her.
Quick Learner
Using treats and praise, I introduced her to the bell. At first, she nudged it out of curiosity. Positive reinforcement helped her associate the sound with going outside. She mastered both paw and nose taps within days.
Overcoming Challenges
At first, she rang it for attention, not necessity. By ignoring unnecessary rings and maintaining consistency, she learned the bell’s purpose.
The Results
Now, she uses the bell perfectly, tapping lightly to let me know she’s ready to head out. It’s made life easier, strengthened our bond, and showcased her intelligence.
A dog doorbell is more than a convenience—it’s a tool for communication and trust. With patience and love, any pup can learn this skill.
